First of, I have not yet made the full formula, it is more of a reaction to the nature of the formula. It’s quite ironic how complex fragrances can sometimes have a simplistic formula with very little ingredients. And on the contrary, how a quite generic (although lovely) simplistic smelling fragrance like Himalaya can have such a sophisticated formula. It’s so complex (55/70 are trace amounts), that I was even a bit overwhelmed. Do you really need thát many to achieve a scent profile like this? Aventus has almost half of the amount and smells 10x more complex. I wonder if it can be done with less than 40 materials. It just feels unnecessarily complex – for a fragrance with an almost non-existent base. A little hint to those who love Himalaya; its strongly built around IES and DHM 😉

So this one is tricky. It is a really, really good and sharp-fresh Fougère but it has needed a little work.
As I did not smelled the original I have nothing to compare this formula with (except the marketing and the rewiews here and there).
So it was a little bit of a deception when a first tried the V1 straight for the formula = did not smell like “a fresh air mountain fougère”.
There was something wrong so, thanks to the formula and the possibility to dive in and tweak it, I can tell that V2 is amazing, trully, at least for my expectations = fresh fougère, fresh air, great citruces, good performance, very manly, fresh barber scent… awsome !!!
What did I do from V1 to V2 to get there ? Simply removed what, I think, did not fit in that kind of fresh scent :
_ top, removed all the green notes (except mint) and replace the same amount with a classic and simple “Creed Accord” you can find almost everywhere (reddit, basenotes, …) It adds a crisp, fresh manly feel on the opening.
_ heart, just removed all the heavy florals (not the transparents ones) and the fruits because… they are listed nowhere and, above all, I think they didn’t match with the transparents and the freshness of the aromatics. The % removed here are added to the base.
_ base, removed the animalic, smoky and rose woods to increase the sandalwoods, because Himalaya is about sandalwood. Increase fresh musks with the % removed from the heart.
And that is it ! you get a trully mighty fresh fougère, one of the best I have ever smelled, very masculin, very fresh with a hint, a “je ne sais quoi” of a great snowy mountain (thank you juniper).
So, thank you Filipe for allowing us to understand how a perfume is built and give us the possibility to progress… and make such great scents at home !
