This is one of those examples where you wonder when you see the basis of the formula: why didn’t I come up with this myself? It seems so simple, yet it is very cleverly created. Obviously the work of a master perfumer. This formula by CF is very close (90-95%) to the latest batches of the original. I used to own batch B20 from 2018 and it smells more like that, than to the earlier batches. The earlier batches are known for the crazy long 10+ hour strong musky-soapy-muguet-lily-of-the-valley drydown. That’s not in this one unfortunately, I can confirm that after having blended v1 and v3 of this CF formula.
@Filipe: it would be great to one day do an analysis on an older batch (pre 2016 or even earlier?), it would be worth it 🙂 It’s what Patchouli Absolu was known for. The latest one, before it got discontinued in 2020, is a shade of what the fragrance was unfortunately. Hence I sold my 2018 bottle. Rumors say it got discontinued because they couldn’t reach the quality of the original PA anymore, who knows because of restrictions? I have overdosed Lyral in one of my latest blends to see what happens, haha…

This smells very nice and really close to the original. What is missing for me however is the longevity of the original which would last for 10-12 hours on my skin. This seems to last only 4 or so before fading off. I’m not sure if that is due to other additives such as sunscreens etc. in the formula to prevent degradation from light over time. Interested in seeing if others have had the same.

My first formula in the woddy scents journey. And it was a very good surprise ! It is light and clear on the openning but rich, very woddy and a bit smocky on the drydown. Very pleasing, can’t stop smelling the strip.
I tuned down a lot ambrinol though because of the “chemical cleaning product feel” it has to my nose. I used it at 10% dilluted and twice less than the part of the formula.
