    Just like old times!

I remember owning this in the late 1980’s, though I was in my very early twenties at the time and it seemed a bit vintage for me. The scent of the original, however, has stayed with me since, much like the vintage Polo Green. Fast-forward to 2018. While at the Paris Guerlain store, I saw that they still had this and sampled it. There was little to none of the original I remembered. That certain ‘something’ was gone. It now just smelled like most modern, somewhat spicy formulas. When I saw that Filipe had added the vintage formula here, I jumped. I put it together, but soon after he updated the formula, so remade it. After maceration and maturation in alcohol (I usually do one month for juice, then about three months in alcohol), I was immediately transported back. THIS is indeed THE one and only original Guerlain Vetiver. If you’re old enough to have worn the original while fresh (not a 30+ year tired one), you will find this formula to be precisely what you remember. It’s wonderfully just like old times!

A classic coming back to life

Taste evolution is a curious thing – 15-20 years ago I was all into the sweet amber heavy fragrances (in an age when they were less en vogue). These days, I am into fresh, transparent, and above all bitter smells. Vetiver is one of the ingredients that falls right into the sweet spot of all of that – and with the G. Treatment here, it is truly a pleasure to see it come to life exactly at the Venn diagram sweet spot of fresh, transparent, and bitter.

    Wow!

This formula is amazing. I like this juice better than Guerlain’s current iteration. Though I’ve never smelled the vintage formula, this formula is rich, full, nuanced… it’s beautiful.

    A beautiful vetiver fragrance

I made this fragrance yesterday and I am extremely happy with the result. It is deep and fresh at the same time, as well as complex and interesting. I am sure it will improve even more over time. Though I have never tried vintage Vetiver, I imagine that this is what it would be like. More than half of the ingredients in the formula are natural essential oils, extracts and absolutes. How wonderful! I am delighted that Creative Formulas is doing this work and offering vintage formulas at a reasonable price.

    MAGIC FORMULA

    arandes62 (verified owner)

I have used this perfume for many years, I started towards the end of the seventies and at that time I am sure that its formulation was the original one of 1959. Until all the eighties the fragrance remained the same, then in the early nineties began the first reformulations, at first not very significant, today what was an iconic perfume of all times is no longer the same.
I made this premise because when I mixed the ingredients of this formula the magic came out! I smelled again after many years that wonderful perfume that accompanied the years of my youth and many more. Fantastic indeed and once again I thank Filipe for giving us the opportunity to revive some legends of the history of perfumery.
