Unfortunately I was not able to try the original yet, but it’s super hyped all over the internet and I had the materials so I gave it a go.
The formula is super interesting; loads of woody ambers, interesting use of a lot of Magnolan, Helvetolide and Cashmeran beautifully blending everything together… and a HUGE amount of ethyl maltol. I had to double check whether I didn’t miss an “ethyl maltol at 10% dilution” in the formula, but nope – it’s used pure. And that amount at a 30% concentration!!
After 2 weeks of maturation I have to say for now it smells really harsh to me, the ethyl maltol really dominates everything, there are some whiffs of brilliance of the resins mixing with the magnolan, woody and spicy notes, the “super ambers” also blend well and boost the “spicy resin” feel, but currently the ethyl maltol really is ruining this for me, hope this will get better as the mix matures… 🙁
On second thought maybe this is the brain playing a trick on me and me knowing the amount of ethyl maltol in the formula leads me to concentrate on that aspect instead of appreciating the fragrance for what it is… Will update in a couple of months!
