    ANOTHER MAGIC FORMULA!

With this formula it happened exactly as in G. Vetiver, the perfume came back to life after decades! When it came out in the late seventies I was struck by its personality and elegance, it was a gentleman’s perfume in a suit that goes to the county club, but although I was very young at that time I decided that it would be one of my favorite perfumes and so it was for many years. What you find today has not changed much, but also in this case to revive this fragrance you need the right natural compounds mixed in a masterful way. And once again a SUPER BRAVO and a big thanks to Filipe!

    Blast from the past!

I just posted another review, for the Guerlain vintage Vetiver, and this is going to be relatively similar because what I sought in that formula, as this one, was that ‘feeling’ I used to get from the originals, back in the 80s, sadly lost in reformulation. I was 18 years old in 1986, when I was introduced to Polo Green by someone who wore it often and whom I adored (at 18, we seem to fall in and out of love at the drop of a hat, it seems…). So, Polo Green was magic for me, because this person wore it. I run out and got a bottle. The another, when that was done. As it usually goes, soon other perfumes came my way (Safari, Tsar, Minotaure…) and Polo Green was left behind on the shelf. A few decades later, I was remembering it with nostalgia, but knew it had been reformulated, so I set out to recreate the original as I remembered it and against vintage samples I had. I got extremely close, but that certain something was still not there. When I saw Filipe offered the formula, I quickly got it and ended up with both his original and updated formulas. I made the latter one. As I was transcribing the formula into my software, I realized just how amazingly close I had gotten on my own, but then saw the elusive ingredient that gave Polo that initial feel I remembered (obviously, I won’t mention it here. You’ll have to get the formula to find out!). It was quite an ‘Aha’ moment for me as a perfumer, and the ‘duh, I cannot believe I did not think of it!’ After maceration and maturing in alcohol, THERE IT WAS! It was almost like this person I was infatuated with back then had walked right into my room, almost 40 years later. If you remember the original, this formula will bring it all back to you. As an aside, I had the same feeling when I made Filipe’s TSAR offering as well. Right on target there as well. I was lucky to have a professional perfumer I know share with me the Safari formula, which was another blast from the past, and I hope Filipe eventually offers it here for all of those who lived (and loved) perfume back then!
